PCR Strip Tubes for Small-Batch Amplification

PCR strip tubes provide a convenient, cost-effective format for running 1–24 reactions without committing to a full 96-well plate. Our 8-tube strips are manufactured from ultra-thin, uniform-wall virgin polypropylene for consistent thermal transfer and well-to-well uniformity. Available in clear for endpoint PCR and natural for general use, with individually attached or separate cap strips.

Flat Caps vs. Domed Caps

Flat (optical) caps are required for real-time PCR instruments that read fluorescence through the cap. The flat, optically clear surface minimizes light scatter and ensures consistent signal detection. Domed caps provide a tighter seal and are preferred for endpoint PCR, sample storage, and any application where optical clarity is not required. Domed caps also reduce condensation on the inner cap surface during thermal cycling.

Handling Best Practices

Always handle strip tubes by the edges to avoid fingerprints on optical surfaces. For qPCR, use optical flat caps and confirm your instrument is calibrated for strip-tube geometry. When splitting strips, snap tubes apart carefully to avoid cracking the connecting hinge. Store unused strips in their original bag to prevent dust contamination.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

PCR Strip Tube FAQ

Yes. Our 8-strip tubes are designed to fit standard 96-well thermal cycler blocks. Place strips in adjacent columns — 12 strips fill a complete 96-well block. The tube spacing matches the 9 mm SBS well pitch.

Yes. We offer both flat optical cap strips and domed cap strips sold separately. This allows you to pair the cap style to your application. Individually attached cap strips (hinged) are also available as a single SKU for convenience.

Yes, when paired with our flat optical cap strips. The optically clear polypropylene has low autofluorescence and is validated on Bio-Rad, Applied Biosystems, and Roche real-time platforms. Check your instrument manual for any strip-tube-specific calibration requirements.

The nominal capacity is 200 µL, but the practical working volume for PCR is 10–50 µL. Overfilling beyond 100 µL increases the risk of cap displacement during thermal cycling due to vapor pressure. For reaction volumes over 50 µL, consider 0.5 mL individual PCR tubes.

Strip tubes can be used for short-term storage at -20°C. For long-term storage at -80°C, we recommend screw-cap microcentrifuge tubes or storage plates with pierceable sealing mats, which provide a more reliable seal against evaporation and cross-contamination over time.
