PCR Plates for Every Workflow

Our PCR plates are manufactured from ultra-thin, uniform-wall virgin polypropylene for optimal thermal transfer and consistent well-to-well amplification. Available in white (for qPCR fluorescence) and clear (for endpoint PCR), with options for barcoding and automation compatibility.

SKIRT COMPARISON

Full-skirted vs. semi-skirted vs. unskirted

Skirt TypeRigidityAutomationBest For
Full-SkirtedHighest — rigid frameRobotic grippers, plate stackersAutomated liquid handling, high-throughput qPCR
Semi-SkirtedMedium — partial frameMost thermal cyclersGeneral PCR, manual and semi-automated workflows
UnskirtedFlexibleBlock-only cyclersBudget-friendly endpoint PCR, fits directly in block
💡Standard vs. Low Profile

Standard-profile plates (~15.5 mm well height, ~200 µL max volume) are the default for most thermal cyclers. Low-profile plates (~10.8 mm well height, ~100 µL max volume) are required for instruments with reduced-height lids, including many real-time PCR systems (e.g., Bio-Rad CFX, Roche LightCycler). Check your instrument manual before ordering.

🔬White vs. Clear Plates

Use white plates for qPCR—the opaque walls reflect fluorescent signal back toward the detector, increasing sensitivity by 2–4x compared to clear plates. Use clear plates for endpoint PCR where you only need to visualize amplicons on a gel.

PCR Plate FAQ

The Bio-Rad CFX96 requires low-profile 96-well plates (semi-skirted or unskirted) with a compatible optical seal. Our low-profile semi-skirted plates with optical adhesive film are a validated combination for this instrument.

Yes. Our full-skirted plates conform to SBS/ANSI microplate standards and are compatible with Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman, and Eppendorf robotic platforms. Barcoded versions are available for LIMS tracking.

PCR plates are designed for thermal cycling, not long-term storage. For sample storage at −80°C, use our deep-well plates or storage plates with pierceable sealing mats that prevent evaporation.

For qPCR, use optical adhesive film or optically clear heat-seal foil. For endpoint PCR, strip caps or standard adhesive film work well. Foil seals are best when plates will be stored or transported before analysis.

Yes. Our 384-well plates are available in standard profile for high-throughput screening and miniaturized qPCR. They reduce reagent consumption by 75% compared to 96-well format while maintaining amplification performance.
