Deep-Well Plates for Storage and Processing

Deep-well plates combine the high-throughput format of a 96-well microplate with the volume capacity needed for sample storage, nucleic acid extraction, compound dilution, and protein precipitation. All plates conform to SBS/ANSI dimensions for compatibility with robotic liquid handlers, plate sealers, and centrifuges.

💡Choosing Your Well Volume

0.5 mL plates are used for PCR cleanup and low-volume storage. 1.0–1.2 mL plates are the workhorse for nucleic acid extraction (KingFisher, magnetic bead protocols) and sample aliquoting. 2.2 mL plates handle larger volumes for compound management, protein precipitation, and clinical sample processing.

🔬Round-Well vs. Square-Well

Round-well plates mix more evenly on orbital shakers and are preferred for cell-based and biological assays. Square-well plates maximize volume capacity per well and are standard for compound storage and liquid-liquid extraction where every microliter counts.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Deep-Well Plate FAQ

Yes. Our polypropylene deep-well plates are rated for centrifugation up to 6,000×g. Always use a plate centrifuge with appropriate plate carriers to prevent cracking. Higher RCF applications may require reinforced plates—contact us for recommendations.

Polypropylene deep-well plates can withstand autoclaving at 121°C/15 psi. However, autoclaving may cause slight warping. For sterile applications, we recommend using our pre-sterilized (gamma-irradiated) versions instead.

Use pierceable sealing mats for automated sampling, adhesive foil seals for storage and shipping, or silicone cap mats for repeated access. Heat-seal foil provides the most secure seal for long-term −80°C storage.

Yes. Our 1.0 mL and 2.2 mL deep-well plates are validated for use with KingFisher Flex and KingFisher Apex magnetic particle processors. Pair them with our tip combs for a complete extraction consumable set.
