LTS Tips: Designed for Rainin Pipettes
LTS (LiteTouch System) tips use a cylindrical seal geometry instead of the traditional friction-fit cone. This design requires significantly lower insertion and ejection force, reducing the repetitive strain associated with high-throughput manual pipetting. Our LTS tips are manufactured from virgin polypropylene with optional low-retention surface treatment for improved sample recovery with viscous or surfactant-containing liquids.
LTS vs. Universal Pipette Tips
| Feature | LTS Tips | Universal Tips |
|---|---|---|
| Seal Type | Cylindrical O-ring seal | Friction cone seal |
| Insertion Force | Low — light push-on | Moderate — requires firm seating |
| Ejection Force | Low — reduced thumb strain | Higher — standard ejection |
| Pipette Compatibility | Rainin LTS pipettes only | Eppendorf, Gilson, Thermo, Brand, and more |
| Low-Retention Option | Yes | Yes |
| Filter Option | Yes | Yes |
| Packaging Formats | Racked, Reload | Racked, Reload, Hanging, Bulk |
Low-retention tips feature a hydrophobic inner surface that minimizes liquid adhesion. Choose low-retention when pipetting protein solutions, detergent-containing buffers (Tween, Triton), glycerol stocks, viscous lysates, or any precious reagent where maximizing sample recovery matters. For aqueous buffers, water, and standard media, non-treated tips deliver equivalent accuracy at lower cost.
Our LTS tips cover the full Rainin pipette range: 10 µL (P2, P10), 20 µL (P20), 200 µL (P100, P200), 1000 µL (P1000), and 1200 µL (P1200). Extended-length versions are available for reaching into deep vessels. Always match your tip volume to your pipette model for optimal seal and accuracy.
LTS Pipette Tips FAQ
Universal tips can physically seat on an LTS shaft, but the seal will be suboptimal. The LTS system uses a cylindrical O-ring contact rather than a friction cone, so universal tips may wobble, leak, or require excessive insertion force. Always use LTS-specific tips with Rainin LTS pipettes for reliable performance.
The primary advantage is ergonomic. LTS tips require up to 85% less insertion force and significantly less ejection force compared to universal tips. This reduces the risk of repetitive strain injury (RSI) during high-throughput pipetting sessions. The cylindrical seal also provides more consistent tip-to-tip sealing than friction-fit cones.
Yes. Our LTS filter tips are available pre-sterilized (gamma-irradiated) and certified DNase/RNase-free, human DNA-free, and endotoxin-free. The hydrophobic polyethylene aerosol filter prevents cross-contamination of the pipette shaft during PCR, cell culture, and other sensitive applications.
LTS tips are available in two formats: Racked (pre-loaded in racks, ready to use, sterile or non-sterile) and Reload (refill inserts that drop into your existing LTS rack bases, reducing plastic waste by up to 60%). Bulk packaging is not available for LTS tips due to the geometry of the cylindrical seal.
Yes. Our LTS tips are validated on all current Rainin LTS pipette models including the E4 XLS+ (electronic), Pipet-Lite XLS+ (manual), and BioClean LTS series. They also fit Rainin multichannel LTS pipettes (L8, L12) in the corresponding volume ranges.
