COLLECTION WORKFLOW

How to collect and transport specimens

1

Collect Specimen

Use the provided swab (nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal) to collect the specimen following your facility’s collection protocol.

2

Transfer to VTM

Immediately insert the swab into the pre-filled VTM tube. Break the swab handle at the scored line and cap the tube securely.

3

Label & Store

Label the tube with patient information and collection date. Store at 2–8°C. Specimens are stable for up to 72 hours refrigerated.

4

Transport to Lab

Ship in an insulated container with cold packs following your facility’s biohazard shipping procedures. For long-term storage, freeze at -70°C.

💡Storage & Stability

Specimens in VTM are stable at 2–8°C for up to 72 hours and at -70°C for long-term storage. Do not freeze at -20°C as this can reduce viral recovery. Always follow your laboratory’s SOP for specific transport and storage requirements.
