Lab Essentials for Every Bench
Glassware and plastics are the foundation of every laboratory - borosilicate glass beakers, Erlenmeyer flasks, graduated cylinders, reagent bottles, and their polypropylene and HDPE equivalents for applications where breakage is a concern or glass is chemically incompatible. Weighing supplies include aluminum and polystyrene weighing boats, weighing paper, stainless steel spatulas, and anti-static accessories for accurate gravimetric measurements on analytical and top-loading balances. Lab equipment and accessories covers incubator shelves and racks, color-coded lab tape, autoclave indicator tape, cryogenic labels, and the small tools that keep a lab organized and running efficiently.
Glass vs. plastic labware
| Property | Borosilicate Glass | Polypropylene (PP) | HDPE |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chemical Resistance | Excellent (except HF and hot alkali) | Good (resists most acids, bases, solvents) | Good (resists acids, bases; not for organics) |
| Temperature Range | -40 to 500C (oven-safe) | -20 to 135C (autoclavable) | -50 to 80C |
| Transparency | Excellent | Translucent | Opaque or translucent |
| Breakage Risk | Shatters on impact | Shatter-resistant | Shatter-resistant |
| Best For | Heating, volumetric work, visibility | Autoclaving, centrifugation, chemical storage | Reagent bottles, carboys, wash bottles |
Use weighing boats or paper to protect your balance pan and prevent cross-contamination between samples. Aluminum boats are best for dry powders and are disposable. Anti-static tools (ionizing bars, anti-static brushes) are important when weighing fine powders that cling to plastic boats due to static charge. Always tare your boat or paper before adding sample, and work away from drafts, vibrations, and direct sunlight for the most accurate readings on analytical balances.
General Lab Supplies FAQ
Yes. Our glassware collection includes borosilicate (Pyrex-equivalent) beakers, flasks, graduated cylinders, and bottles. We also carry polypropylene and HDPE equivalents for applications where breakage is a concern, for centrifugation, or where glass is incompatible with your reagents (e.g., strong alkali, HF).
We carry aluminum weighing boats (diamond-shaped and round) in multiple sizes for dry powders and granules. We also carry polystyrene anti-static weighing boats for fine powders that are prone to static cling. Weighing paper (nitrogen-free, non-absorbing) is available for analytical applications where contamination from the boat material could affect results.
We carry both Class A (ASTM E1272 tolerance) and Class B graduated cylinders. Class A cylinders are individually serialized and come with a tolerance certificate - use these for precise volumetric measurements. Class B cylinders have wider tolerances and are suitable for general-purpose measuring and reagent preparation.
Yes. High-volume consumables like weighing boats, lab tape, and plastic labware are available at case quantity discounts. Contact us with your regular supply list and we will put together volume pricing. We also offer scheduled delivery for items your lab uses on a recurring basis.
